Frame welds, service history, tyre date codes, and a short test ride that catches expensive surprises.
Check the frame and swingarm for cracks or uneven paint, verify the VIN against the RC, and ask for every service invoice. Tyre week codes older than 4–5 years mean you should budget for replacements soon.
Cold-start the engine, listen for chain slap and clutch noise, then ride through 2nd to 4th gear. Soft brakes or a wandering handlebar are walk-away signals unless the price already assumes the repair.
